Lyrics

On the day that she was born somebody brought a flower pot
Golden daisies soft and warm amongst some pink and white
And the room that afternoon smelled like the dirt upon her shirt
When she was five out digging in the garden at twilight
...like other little girls have done in the beginning of their lives
Can you imagine all the flowers that we’ve found along the road
They’ve grown and withered in our eyes
But they will be there in the end so we can take them as we go
They are our colorful reprise
And how we’ll love to share them with the skies
On the day that they were wed - White roses blessed with babies breath
Petals tossed before her steps - Remembrance trailed behind
Years and years unwound like gears - A ticking clock - A little shock
All was left of all that breath - A solitary sigh
...and all the little girls and boys found in the middle of her life
The rain fall calls the flowers with its ultra sonic sounds
And the seeds they give are scattered out and broken
Then their sacrificial colors make a banquet for the ground
But the sewer knows the words they left unspoken
For every mother - For every wife
Grand ones and daughters - All bearing bits of light
The hands that rocked us - And for their sons
This perfect circle without which we’ll come undone
Twilight comes and she moves on - The flowers marching to this song
They stand up tall and soldier on and join her on her way
But her fingerprints are on the mess and they will never go away
And as she turns she finds the flowers that were hers upon the road
She holds them tightly as they fly...
They are there with her in the end so she can breathe them as she goes
They are her colorful surprise...
Can you imagine all the flowers that we’ve found along the road
They’ve grown and withered in our eyes
But they will be there in the end so we can take them when we go
They are our colorful reprise
And how we’ll love to share them with the skies
